For nearly over 40 years Leon has been trying to get all the right notes in the right order! At the tender age of 5, he took to the keys and from there has developed a love of music ranging from Prokofiev to Pink Floyd, Mozart to Muse and Elgar to the Eagles.
Although he is classically trained, Leon has been an accompanist and musical director for the Young Performers for 25 years and has performed and arranged almost every genre of music. He regularly performs as a Musical Director at the Duchess Theatre in Long Eaton and was Chairman of the local Arts Council for over 15 years.
Over the years, he has been musical director to Bernie Clifton, Melvyn Hayes, Tim Healy, Kaplan Kaye, Simmons & Simmons, Paul Squire, Des Coleman, David Capri, The Ukaye Ukes, Scott Dee and Paul Hopkins
His 3 most influential music figures are Bach, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Rick Wakeman and would, some day love to perform alongside any of them… although we can see 1 small problem with Bach!
Although he trained as a design and service engineer, for the last 15+ years, Leon has been a freelance music tutor, specialising in the Piano and Voice both privately and in local schools. He teaches from his studio in Long Eaton (Black Door Music Services) and is always happy to offer advice on the purchasing of a piano!
According to his ‘better half’, Vicky, he is a keen (for want of a better word) collector of any musical instrument with keys on it – from everyday pianos, keyboards, synths etc to concertinas and even a Victorian Reed Organ!
In (what little) spare time Leon has, he plays keys for local Blues/Jazz band Cranberry Flick, is a keen member of the Rotary Club of Long Eaton Dawnbreakers and regularly spends time 'thinking about' restoring his 2 classic cars – a MkIII Triumph Spitfire and a Convertible Triumph Herald.
Leon is also the co-owner of Black Door Music Services, a trio of teachers specialising in the music service/repair/tuition market.
